I dream in pictures, so when I’m writing a story, I’m often picturing the scene between the characters. And for this story, I’ve searched and search for photos to help depict what I am bringing to life.
I want to share them with you to help you picture this story that I’m super excited to be putting together. It’s a true labor of love and one of my absolute favorite stories. The photos above were created using Canva AI.
The barn is just a short walk from Laila’s house. Housed in one of the lean-to’s there is a sturdy wooden wagon that she hitches to her black and white paint horse, Toby. The horse paddock is right next to the barn.
The street view creates the imagery for what I envision a street in Laila’s hometown of Engville looks like. It’s a mix of modern and ancient architecture, built for longevity and communal prosperity.
The last photo of the silhouetted individual on the cliff is where the novel begins, introducing a very pivotal character throughout this entire story.

His skill is like that of a chess master, but not in your traditional board game style – rather it’s real life that he attempts to navigate this way.
It serves him well in his specialist training, but he isn’t prepared for the unexpected twists and turns that fate brings.
His upbringing has spurred him on to find and develop true meaning and purpose with his life, yet the route he took has a disappointing end, which means he must risk the unknown of escape or relinquish his defiance and yield to tolerating a role he grew up loathing.
Laila Mercer is what you’d call a simple country girl with a quiet and rebellious inner spirit.
Longing for something other than the typical routine of her life has her wishing for change, but it comes in a very unexpected way.
She is confronted with something – or rather someone – new, unknown, and captivating that pushes her beyond her comfort zone forcing her into the version of herself that she’s kept hidden from everyone.
It’s with this change in her life that she begins to take a stand for what she wants, trust in a power greater than herself, and experience love in it’s unconditional form.
Gabriel Lane is easy to read, yet hard to predict. At least that’s how his comrade and long-time friend, Jarrett, would explain him.
He’s quick to take action, a little unpredictable, adventurous and has every intent to live life on his own terms.
Unfortunately, he’s experienced loss close at hand and because of it a part of him stays closed off to attachments, but being a friendly and likeable guy comes quite naturally.
It’s not until a chance encounter and unfolding circumstances make him realize that the life he desires requires letting himself develop a deeper relationship, but it won’t come without some ups, downs, and unexpected twists of its own.
